VOLUNTEERS are needed to help spruce up Riverside for a community group’s maiden litter pick on March 3rd.
Keep Riverside Tidy join a growing number of Keep Tidy groups in Cardiff holding events across the city. The venture is being headed by residents, Gwilym Owen, and Rebecca Falvey.
Rebecca said: “We’ve had great support thus far from Keep Splott Tidy and we know we can learn a lot from groups who have been running for longer than us.
“We’ve got businesses, residents and other organisations signed up and we’re hoping to speak to lots of people on the day about their concerns and their ideas.
“It won’t just be about litter picking, we want to create an even more beautiful Riverside through development of green spaces, community gardening, food growing etc.”
“We’re talking to the council about the little bits of unused green space in the area, to see if we can ‘adopt’ them and get them planted up with herbs, wildflowers and veg for all to enjoy and use.”
Riverside’s first event, a litter pick, will coincide with Spring Clean Cymru, a nationwide campaign encouraging people across Wales to get together to help clean up the country on March 3rd.
The group are supported by Cardiff Council. Caro Wild, Labour councillor for the Riverside ward, said: “Riverside is such a special community in the heart of Cardiff, and we are delighted the community are leading positive changes in the area.”
Keep Riverside Tidy’s inaugural event kicks off at 10am and volunteers will meet at Clare Gardens. More information can be found on their Twitter, @TidyRiverside.
