HISTORY was made by Barry Town Ladies U16s as they overcame the wet and Corwen to reach their first FAW Girls’ Cup final.
Driving rain was not the only thing battering Latham Park. From the opening whistle, Barry’s forwards battered the Corwen defence.
It was no surprise that Barry found themselves 2-0 up within 20 minutes courtesy of a Sian Rees brace.
After the break, it was the turn of Corwen to dominate, with keeper Ruth Stanley making a vital stop to maintain Barry’s two-goal advantage.
But Town held on to secure an historic victory.
They will take on fellow Newport’s Villa Dino in the final, the date of which is to be announced later this week by the FAW.
Speaking after the match, manager Lee Jenkins said: “I couldn’t be more proud of every single player today. They all played their part in a good performance, and on the balance of play, deserved to go through. “We look forward to the final where we need one more big performance.”
