Fireworks display in St Mellons raises £1,700 for charity


A FIREWORKS display in St Mellons raised an estimated £1,700 for charity. 
Over 1,000 people attended the event organised by the Beacon Community Centre, with spectators spread across all the surrounding area such was the popularity of the event. 
Pastor Luke Seymour, labelled the donations “so essential and so needed for community events and community projects” that the centre runs, on Facebook.
“Special thank you to the army of volunteers and kitchen staff who made it all happen,” he said. 
The Beacon Centre organises activities and projects for children and seniors throughout the week and has been running an annual fireworks displays for 11 years – ever since the the centre’s inception.

Viewers lined round-abouts and roads to watch.

 A DJ entertained spectators prior to the display, with voluntary donations and tuck-shop sales helping to raise money. 
“It seems to get more and more popular each year – it’s always a successful event,” said Assistant Manager Mrs. Deborah Bull.   
“We are a charity organisation – we are not council run – so we do not get any funding.”
The money will also help with the upkeep and maintenance of the building.
