Food For Life Wales provides healthy meals along with yoga, meditation and mindfulness
A BUTETOWN food charity has launched a new wellness hub on Queen Street as a distribution point to make and deliver nutritious meals.
Food For Life Wales is a charity organisation overseen by the Hare Krishna temple and cultural centre on Bute Street. It has been distributing plant-based meals to those in need for over 20 years.
The charity has transformed its old cafe into a city centre safe haven called The Atma Lounge. It features upcycled furniture, original artwork, a study area and recycled flooring.
“We aim to create a safe haven for people, including students or anyone who would feel the benefits, to come and unwind. Any profit made from Atma will go directly to our project which feeds vulnerable people throughout South Wales,” said project coordinator Evie Thomson, 26.
Before the launch, Evie set up a Go Fund Me page aiming to raise £1,000 to help cover the cost of revamping the space. So far, it has raised over £900. Further donations are welcome.
Because its government funding recently came to an end, FFL now asks service users to contribute £1 per meal if they can afford it. The most vulnerable recipients will continue to receive their meals for free. The group is also planning a Christmas appeal for people to sponsor meals during the holiday season.
One of the many ways you can help is by becoming a supporter through a monthly donation.
The Atma Lounge is open between 12 and 4pm from Tuesday to Saturday and is located in The Capitol Shopping Centre on Queen Street.
