Bluebirds are unbeaten in last six away games as they seek to climb up the Championship table.
CARDIFF travel to the Midlands tomorrow to play Coventry as they seek to make it seven away games unbeaten.
The bluebirds are currently 15th in the Championship, on the same points as Birmingham, QPR and Huddersfield while Coventry sit in 21st, just one point outside the relegation zone.
Cardiff are unbeaten in their last six away games and the last time Neil Harris faced Coventry was at his time as Millwall manager, they won 2-0 at the Ricoh Arena.
Despite Cardiff’s good away record, both sides drew their last matches and go into this game having won only one match in their last five.
Cardiff’s last outing was at The Den last Saturday, where they secured a draw after Millwall took the lead in the first half.
Fullback Joe Bennet enjoyed playing higher up the pitch and put in a good performance defensively, while Robert Glatzel also caught the eye.
The first goal came in the 34th minute after a defensive lapse between Curtis Nelson and Sean Morrison meant Matt Smith could jump above Nelson and head the ball home.
Two Cardiff second half substitutions – Sheyi Ojo replacing Junior Hiolett on the wing and winger Josh Murphy coming on for Glatzel in attack – made a difference.
Murphy had an instant impact when he played a lovely weighted ball through Millwall’s back line into Kieffer Moore, who managed to roll it past Millwall’s keeper at his near post to equalise on 78 minutes.
Cardiff looked like the side who would take three points after Murphy’s equaliser, but in the end they came away with one.
“When you create those chances, you have to take them, and Kieffer’s finish was outstanding,” said Neil Harris after the game
“I don’t just look at today, but the next four games, and what’s coming up this week. For today to become a really good point, we have to follow it up with a good performance, and more importantly three points against Coventry on Wednesday. Ultimately, that’s what matters.”
Cardiff worked hard to get a draw, but this means they have only won three games this season.
“The fact we haven’t won enough games is why we’re not in those play-off positions, it’s a tough one as a manager because the performances have been excellent recently and we haven’t had the results,” Neil Harris said at a press conference today.
Harris also provided an injury update on Defender Greg Cunningham: “He’s back in full training so whether we include Greg tomorrow we’ll have to make a late decision.
“Greg’s come back from a semi-serious hamstring injury we’ve got to make sure we don’t take any risks with him when there’s no immediate need.
“We’re a club that feel like we should be in that top 10 fighting for that top six and we own the right to do that this year off the back of what we achieved last year from November onwards.
“We can’t look back now we’ve got to look forward, and it’s about learning from errors we’ve made, and we will close that gap if we keep playing like we are.”
Cardiff vs Coventry Kicks off at 7.45pm and the game will be available to watch on Cardiff City TV, and can be found on Cardiff’s website.
