Public toilets in Cardiff have reopened after concerns about ‘dignity’

Roath Park, Victoria Park and the Barrage facilities are back after campaign

PUBLIC toilets in Victoria Park, Roath Park Pleasure Gardens, Roath Park Lake and the Barrage have been re-opened by Cardiff Council.

Joseph Carter, the Liberal Democrat councillor for Pentwyn, had raised the issue at the last Cardiff council meeting, saying: “It’s disappointing that the council has closed public toilets but not considered the impact on the health, wellbeing, and basic dignity of residents.”

He said the policy felt like it had been “developed by young healthy males, rather than thinking about older people, disabled residents, and many women and children”.

Announcing the news on Twitter, Cardiff Council said there are “regular cleaning regimes and social distancing measures in place to ensure public safety”.

Today, Coun Carter said: “We are delighted that the council has seen sense and will give people back their dignity.”
