Bluebirds fans optimistic about new manager Morison ‘after years of hoofing the ball’

Cardiff City supporters’ spirits have been raised by the new manager’s appointment

CARDIFF City host Sheffield United on Saturday (3pm), knowing a win would create some breathing space between them and the relegation zone.

Steve Morison’s team head into Saturday’s home clash on the back of a 2-1 away victory at struggling Luton.

Goals from Welsh youngster Rubin Colwill and captain, Sean Morrison secured all three points for the Bluebirds at the Kenilworth Road stadium.

But more than the three points is the feeling of hope among supporters after a recent upturn in results following the sacking of Mick McCarthy.

McCarthy’s team were criticised for their style of play as well as the results themselves, but since his appointment as caretaker manager earlier this month, Morison has earned the trust of the Cardiff fans and restored faith on the terraces.

Mark Thompson, 64, from Birchgrove said: “It’s a different style of play, that’s what’s making me optimistic.

“Especially compared to the last 50 years of just hoofing the ball.

“I’m surprisingly optimistic, they’re improving slowly but surely.”

Nel Richards, 21, from Cathays said: “It’s been a long battle.

“It seems as if we have finally turned the corner.

“I’m really hopeful after his appointment, so far it seems as if he has a great playing style,” said Ms Richards.

Visitors Sheffield United also arrive at the Cardiff City Stadium fixture fresh off the back of a win.

New manager Paul Heckingbottom’s tenure got off to the perfect start with a 2-0 victory against Bristol City.

The Blades head to Wales looking to make it three wins in a row for the first time this season.

Cardiff fans aren’t underestimating Saturday’s opponents, a team still packed with Premier League stars – notably Rhian Brewster and Morgan Gibbs-White.

Mr Thompson said: “I’m still concerned about the Sheffield game. It is still very early days.”

“I’m still nervous, I don’t really have much hope,” added Ms Richards.

Sheffield United will welcome back club record signing Norwegian, Sander Berge, who made his first appearance off the bench on Saturday, since he suffered a hamstring injury in September.

Cardiff have no new injuries.

Both sides are looking to continue their recent form and build some needed momentum heading into the busy Christmas period.

The Bluebirds are unbeaten in six against Saturday’s visitors.
