University organises events and litter picks in Llandaff and Cyncoed

Cardiff Met is hosting farmer’s markets, repair shops and helping to clean up their local communities

CARDIFF Metropolitan University are continuing to build links with their local communities by organising events and helping to improve the cleanliness of areas near their main campuses.

Farmer’s Markets, a Repair cafe where people can bring their broken items to be fixed, free bike servicing and several litter picks have been organised over the next three months.

Yesterday was their first litter pick of the New Year in Llandaff.

Rachel Roberts, Sustainability Engagement Manager at Cardiff Metropolitan University, said: “This is a community engagement project to bring the local community and students together. Our sustainable events are open to all.

“These litter picks continued during lockdown so it was one of the ways students and the community could come together.

“On one of the picks, a member of the public walked past and joined us, and he has come to every litter pick since.

“He comes along, and enjoys chatting with the students, it’s a great opportunity to connect communities who don’t normally meet.”

The university, which has campuses in Llandaff and Cyncoed, has just been named fifth in the UK annual University Green League.
