A bonus point win saw Steve Law’s side top the Indigo Premiership table
CARDIFF RFC earned themselves a place at the top of the Indigo Premiership after a convincing 58-8 win over Ebbw Vale at Cardiff Arms Park.
The Blue and Blacks ran in nine tries, the first from a driving lineout after the Steelmen were reduced to 14 after a yellow card.
Ebbw then seemed to lose their way as a series of kicks gifted possession to Cardiff who took advantage.
After 27 minutes Theo Cabango latched onto a Dan Fish cross-field kick to extend Cardiff’s lead to 12 points.
Things got worse for Ebbw when Theo Cabango attempted to chase a kick through, but was taken out by an Ebbw player giving referee Aled Evans no choice but to award a penalty try, after consulting with the TMO.
However, Alex Howe crossed the line for Ebbw just before the break, giving them a glimmer of hope going into the second half, after reducing the score to 22-8.
But the second half belonged to Cardiff, and a fine display from their replacements was too much for the Steelmen to deal with.
Ethan Lloyd scored his second try for Cardiff after rounding up a move that included all the backs – giving Cardiff a bonus point.
Lineouts gave Cardiff driving maul tries, a trade mastered by Alun Rees who got two tries on the night.
Three spectacular tries rounded off a five star Cardiff display, the first being an Ellis Bevan try following a turnover as the ball travelled the length of the pitch for him to score.
Electric winger Ifan Pyrs Jones was on the scoresheet after an offload from Bevan gave Jones an easy route to score.
Superb work from Morgan Allen as he gathered the ball from the base of a scrum in his own 22 and took it to the oppositions, before offloading to Bevan for his second try rounding up a perfect day for Cardiff.
Hooker Alun Rees said following the game: “We were slow in the first half but we grew into the game as it went along.
“We’re really improving as a team and hope it will pay dividends at the end of the season. We were clinical and got the win in the end.”
