Moore trouble for Cardiff as Kieffer is tipped for Bournemouth move

The Bluebirds may have to find a new striker with The Cherries keen on the Welshman

CARDIFF City could be in search of a new goalscorer if Kieffer Moore departs for Bournemouth.

Cardiff have been reliant on Moore, who scored 20 goals last season, but this season is proving tough after injuries and positive Covid results have resulted in the Welshman being sidelined.

Moore, who has been strongly linked with a move to the south coast club, has only started 15 of Cardiff’s 26 Championship games this season, yet he’s their top scorer with five goals.

The Bluebirds, who haven’t won in six, have the fifth-worst scoring record in the league and with Moore’s potential departure things could look bleak for Steve Morison’s men.

James Collins, Mark Harris and Max Watters are the current Cardiff strikers available, but fans aren’t confident they will be able to fill the Welshman’s boots.

Former season ticket holder, Christian Tobias, 22, said: “There are no goalscorers without Kieffer. Harris has his days and Collins and Watters have both looked good, but the goals just aren’t there to prove it.”

Lifelong Cardiff fan Glyn Christie, 72, from Ebbw Vale believes there will be no hope for Cardiff if Moore goes: “He’s the best player we’ve got, everything goes through him.

“I really can’t see how we get someone in who can replace him because he can do everything. He’s the aerial threat we need but he can also play with his feet.”

Steve Morison is reported to be interested in signing Middlesbrough striker Uche Ikpeazu before the deadline on Monday.

The striker has fallen out of favour at Boro since Chris Wilder took charge, playing only 46 minutes. Wilder confirmed today that Cardiff and several other Championship clubs are interested in Ikpeazu.

Steve Morison is understood to want the striker on a loan deal until the end of the season, but Boro would prefer a permanent transfer.

Glyn Christie believes the striker could be a useful asset, but is not quite what the Bluebirds need in their relegation fight.

“He’ll bring physicality that’s for sure, but that’s only a fraction of what Moore does. He [Ikpeazu] has poor ball control, so the option of him being a striker to hold things up is already out the window.

“Morison has mentioned a lot about changing the mindset and style of play, but the results aren’t coming with it.

“The pressure will mount on Morison, but he needs backing from the board, there’s only so much he can do from the sidelines.”
