Cardiff braces for wet and wild weekend after Storm Eunice batters Wales

If Friday’s rare red warning seemed bad, be warned – it’s not over yet, says Met Office

CARDIFF can expect further rough weather over the next few days as Storm Eunice continues to batter Wales.

Wind speeds hit 86 miles an hour in Swansea and 72 mph in Cardiff on Friday morning, and strong gusts are expected to continue throughout the weekend.

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning between 06:00 and 18:00 GMT on Saturday for Wales and South England.

While conditions are likely to be less severe than on Friday, Cardiff residents can still expect strong winds and rain, with further chances of road and bridge closures, public transport cancellations, and power cuts.

The bad weather will continue into Sunday, with heavy rain forecast throughout the day, before easing on Monday as storm Eunice moves eastward.

BBC Weather has warned that Eunice could well be one of the worst storms to hit the UK in three decades. It is the second storm to hit the country in a week, after Storm Dudley caused significant damage to Scotland and Northern England and Ireland after making landfall on Wednesday.
