Storm Eunice sees bin collection suspended by council

Service to resume over the weekend as red weather warning causes disruption

CARDIFF Council suspended rubbish collection today (Friday, February 18) as Storm Eunice swept through South Wales.

The Met Office implemented a red weather warning across South Wales, including Cardiff, from 7am to 12pm on Friday, February 18.

“To try to keep the disruption caused by Storm Eunice to a minimum, Cardiff Council’s emergency management arrangements have been stepped up,” read a Cardiff Council statement.

This means that general waste and food waste collection across Cardiff will be one of many council services that will not be running today.

Instead, those areas affected by this suspension of waste collection can expect their rubbish to be collected over the weekend through to Monday.

Those in the recycling trial in Cardiff will have their recycling collected on Saturday, February 19.

Additionally, the recycling centres on Lamby Way and Bessemer Close will both be closed today, Friday, February 18.

“As trains have been stopped and many events across the country have been cancelled for today, it is totally understandable that rubbish collection has stopped. They have to think about safety first,” said Roath resident, Joe Button, 22.
