‘Warm and welcoming’ Keith Lane made a huge impact in the angling community and more
A bench or a statue would be a suitable recognition to commemorate the legacy of a much-loved community champion, says a local councillor.
Pentwyn Councillor Dan Naughton said he would support a some kind of memorial to mark the life of Keith Lane, who passed away last week.
Keith, who ran angling clubs across Cardiff over the years, including the Pentyrch and Llanedeyrn club, was very passionate about ensuring wildlife protection around the club’s lake.
“I think that would be a great way to recognise his legacy and what he did for the community,” said Coun Naughton.
“Keith was key in getting a local club set up and always bringing issues to attention in our surgeries, which he always attended.
“He was always keen to speak to people, he would speak to anyone in the community and was very warm and welcoming.”
Keith established the Pentwyn and Llanedeyrn Angling Club in May 2019 and then became the chair.
He made sure that the club followed rules around wildlife protection and made sure the lake was sustainable for future generations, ensuring it was a safe space for fishing.
Tributes have also been paid to Keith on social media.
“I had plenty of good times with him fishing a long time ago,” Adrian Martin from Llanrumney wrote on Facebook.
Sue Coleman from Llanedeyrn paid tribute by saying: “He was a very friendly gentleman, I always saw him walking when I was taking my dogs around the lake and he would always say good morning and stop for a pleasant chat.”
