Are Bluebirds flying close to a double derby defeat?

Cardiff are neck and neck with rivals Swansea ahead of April clash

ON APRIL 2, Cardiff will host the long-awaited South Wales derby against Swansea, a fixture rooted in 110 years of history.

After being thrashed 3-0 by Swansea in October, the Bluebirds will be seeking revenge in Steve Morison’s first derby as manager.

Leading up to the match, Cardiff have taken 10 points from the last 12 available and remain unbeaten in their past four games.

January loan signings, Tommy Doyle and Jordan Hugill, scored for the Bluebirds in their 2-1 victory over Stoke on Wednesday.

This Cardiff triumph has pushed them to 17th place on 46 points, narrowing the gap behind Swansea to just one point.

Swansea have two games in hand and could extend their lead by winning against Birmingham on Saturday. If they lose, however, they risk Cardiff leapfrogging them in the table on April 2.

Despite Cardiff’s uphill climb, the threat of a double derby defeat looms over its fans.

A second derby loss after Cardiff’s October defeat would be a first for either side in the South Wales rivalry.

Gareth Davies, 41, is among the City fans eagerly awaiting another round of the age-old clash.

He said: “Very rarely do I look forward to this game, but Morison has brought back the confidence to the team and the fans.

“Don’t get me wrong, I will probably still have the usual feeling of dread closer to the time that usually comes with these games, especially after losing the first one.

“No squad, manager or fans want to be the first to suffer a double derby defeat.”

For the first time in decades, the derby match will kick off on a Saturday at 3pm.

Cardiff City are now taking a 17-day break before they lock horns with Swansea once again.
