‘The Council have terminated me’, claims St David’s Hall employee leading lease protest

An employee at St David’s Hall has told The Cardiffian that he has been sacked by Cardiff Council over social media posts about the agreement to lease the building to AMG

THE organiser of a petition protesting against the deal to lease St David’s Hall to AMG/Live Nation says he has been sacked by Cardiff Council.

Ben Herrington’s petition has accrued well over 21,000 signatures, and he has been a persistent critic of the plans to lease the National Concert Hall of Wales to the multi-national music giant.

Over the past week, Mr Herrington has tweeted multiple times, claiming that the deal for St David’s Hall had been finalised on January 29 – the very same day that the Council had finished consulting on it.

The Council denied this, saying the claim “is not true”.

Mr Herrington told The Cardiffian he believed the decison was due to the social media posts.

“I’m sure you can imagine after 6 years (of working for the Council), it’s a bit of a shock to the system,” he said.

Cardiff Council told The Cardiffian: “The Council does not comment on matters pertaining to individual staff or workers.”

Mr Herrington’s petition on St David’s Hall is due to be debated in the Senedd on February 6 at 2pm.
