New community food hub offering free three-course-meals to open in Ely

The existing FoodCycle food hub in Riverside has reached capacity and now it’s coming to Ely, too

FoodCycle, a UK-based food charity, is set to open its second Cardiff location in Ely on March 27.

They provide anyone in the community who needs it with free three-course meals and are already operating in Wyndham St Centre, Riverside.

Donated food is used to make healthy hot meals while also tackling food poverty and waste.

However, the high demand and full capacity mean that one location is not enough.

FoodCycle will open its second Cardiff location in Ely on March 27

“We’re pretty much full to capacity every week now – demand is definitely on the increase,” said FoodCycle’s South Wales regional manager, Suzanne Wareing.

According to volunteers and guests, FoodCycle is more than a food bank – it’s a place where the community can get together to help tackle loneliness.

Idrissa Camara is a local musician who says that he enjoys visiting FoodCycle as a guest and often brings along his drums.

“I’m happy to come here, sometimes I bring my drum and play the drum to make other people in the community happy,” he said.

Food Cycle Ely will be in The Dusty Forge community hub and will be running once a week on Mondays.

You can also visit FoodCycle Riverside every Wednesday.
