The award-winning luxury private chefs selling In Your Face Cakes at Cardiff markets

Megan Howe wanted to “give back to Cardiff” when she returned home after the death of her grandfather

WHEN Megan Howe moved back to Cardiff from Norfolk after the death of her ‘Bampi’ last year she wanted to keep the old family home going.

Megan, originaly from Cardiff, brought with her the award-winning catering company she runs with husband James.

In August, the couple moved Howe Enterprises into her ‘Bampi’s’ old house in Gabalfa, parts of which have since been converted into a production area for the business.

The catering company comprises of two parts, once of which is ‘In Your Face Cakes’, making delicious treats for sale at Cardiff Farmers Market in Roath, Riverside and at Cardiff Met University.

In Your Face Cakes exclusively uses local produce for their ingredients. All their cakes are handmade in Gabalfa before being sold at market – but it is the family links that make the cakes special for Megan.

“I remember baking as a child with my Nan and my Dad and food has always been at the heart of our family,” said Megan.

“The aim of my products is to make people happy, to create something they enjoy and, most of all, something they will remember.”

The second part of the business is ‘Chef at Home’, which provides catering services to private events across the UK.

‘Chef at Home’ uses various suppliers from Cardiff and the South Wales region for their products. Suppliers include J.T Morgans Butchers, Sullivans Fruit & Veg and Ashton Fishmonger, all based in Cardiff Market.

The couple, who won a national award for ‘Luxury Private Chef of the Year’ in 2022, have established relations with local suppliers and producers and want to strengthen these links as the business develops.

James said using local suppliers helps their new neighbours in industry: “Proximity is a very high priority. It is important to keep the local economy going.”

He said that by moving to Cardiff the company hopes to “keep the business local and in the family.”
