Organiser of first event of its kind is raising money for hospice that cared for her relatives
SANTA Claus is coming to town for a meet and greet with children at a new Christmas market in Llanrumney.
Father Christmas will be available to meet kids and give them a gift. He will also pose for family photos in his own decorated area of the hall at the event on Saturday, December 9.
Samantha Ashford is organising the Christmas market through her business Rose and Flour Bakery, which she runs from her home in Rumney.
“It will be a great day where people can do some Christmas shopping and have some fun with the family while supporting local small businesses,” she said.
A raffle will be held for Whitchurch-based charity City Hospice, which supports those suffering life-limiting illnesses and conditions. Carers either go into patients’ homes or offer treatment at the hospice itself.
Ms Ashford chose this charity because of the care it has provided to members of her family.
“They were able to arrange for us to have equipment to care for family at home after a hospital stay, put in place Marie Curie nurses for end of life care, [and] listened to health concerns,” she said.
A range of small businesses will be selling their products at the market along with refreshments, so Ms Ashford is hoping a lot of people will turn out.
Businesses such as Lewbec Creations, Beautifully Stitched in Wales, Smith Face Painting and many more will be there to sell to those looking to find Christmas presents or get into the party mood.
If this event goes well and a lot of people attend, Samantha hopes to make it a regular event.
The Christmas market will be at St Cadoc’s Catholic Church in Llanrumney from 1pm to 3.30pm and entry is free for all.
