This is the fifth year they have chosen to help the less fortunate
VICTORIA Fish bar in Cardiff will open its doors on Boxing Day to those in need of food, drink, donations, and clothes.
The family business will be open for three hours between 12 and 3pm to provide free meals to about 800 people around the city.
Staff usually have between 30 and 40 volunteers delivering hot meals to homeless people in the city centre and workers in hospitals in Cardiff, including Velindre and Heath. They also deliver to the fire service.
The owner’s son, Muhammad Nazakat said: “We receive a lot of community support throughout the year every year so this is just our way of giving back.
“There are not many homeless people in Rhiwbina, but we notice the vast amounts in Cardiff city centre. Our volunteers will drive to them and give them warm food and clothes.
“The past few years we decided to go to hospitals and fire stations as well so the homeless are just one part of it.
“We have no intention on stopping. This is the fifth year in a row that we have done it, and we will keep doing it for many years to come.”
Regular customer, Pete Lewis, said: “It’s people like you that make me proud of where I come from.”
Anyone who wants to volunteer as a driver can contact them on either 07890 051491 or 029 2062 5286.
They will also be accepting clothes donations in store from now until Christmas Eve.
