Neighbours celebrate opening of community food shop with music, poetry and food

The shop in Splott aims to make good food affordable to everyone

A HUNDRED neighbours from Splott, Adamsdown and Tremorfa have celebrated the relaunch of a community-run food shop.

Splo-Down Food Co-operative had double its regular turnout for the official opening of its new zero waste shop, housed in a shipping container.

Before moving into the container, Splo-Down ran a weekly pop-up shop outside the Oasis refugee centre on Splott Road.

“It’s always been the idea to have a more permanent space that we can set roots down in and grow into different directions,” said member Eve Arnell.

Last summer the group won a £10,000 grant which it used to buy the shipping container. The container was then renovated by Splo-Down members and the group moved in at the end of January.
