Wales’ only women’s ice hockey team stops accepting beginners over a lack of ice time

The top-flight Cardiff Comets can only train once a week from 10pm to 11pm

THE only women’s ice hockey team in Wales is no longer accepting beginners because their ice rink shut after Covid.

The Cardiff Comets are only able to train once a week on a Wednesday night from 10pm to 11pm.

The Vindico Arena in the Sports Village previously had two ice pads, but one was shut because of the energy costs involved. This means that ice hockey, figure skating, and the public all skate together on one rink.

The Comets have a 19-strong Premiership team which moved up to the top league in the Women’s National Ice Hockey League this year after topping their group two years running.

The Comets also have 22 players in their development team, who compete in the Frank Wright Conference.

  • The Premiership team will compete in their Pride match on March 30, at 4pm, against the Milton Keynes Falcons.
  • You can find the Comets on Instagram, Facebook, X and Tiktok
