IT WAS a nervy start for the Welsh ladies’ badminton team as they succumbed 5-0 to Ukraine in their opening tie at the European Championships in Basel.
In the opening match on Tuesday, February 11, Cardiffian Carissa Turner pushed her opponent Marija Ulitina, 84 places above her in the world rankings, close but failed to convert a match point in the second game. She had won the first 21-18, but after the tight second her opponent went on to win the final game 21-16.
Bit of a nervy start for the Welsh Ladies team. Absolutely gutted. Had match point and failed to finish it off. Play again tomorrow
