Yard is situated on the site of the original Old Brewery Quarter in Cardiff city centre which dates back to 1713, and beer was brewed there from 1713 right up until 1999.
In 1882 the brewery, along with 10 other pubs, was purchased by Samuel Arthur Brain and his uncle Benjamin Brain, beginning the company which still bears the Brains name today.
The pub was refurbished in 2003 and became the finalist for Pub Design of the Year in the 2005 Publican Awards. Since then, Yard has been transformed with quirky new designs, in the form of red leather seating, Victorian portraits and visible industrial piping.
The Yard offers a vast array of drinks but is perhaps most famously known for its cocktails, which are two for one between 5pm and 10pm daily. The cocktail menu offers a wide range of drink options from long serves and classics like Tequila Sunrise and Raspberry Collins to cocktails specifically served in martini glasses.
The Yard also offers a few twists on the classic Mojito. Mojito-lovers looking for something a little bit special can try Yard’s Spiced Bacardi Mojito, Strawberry Mojito or Passion Fruit Mojito. The Passion Fruit Mojito is particularly delicious for those who prefer a slightly sharper taste to strawberry or are looking for something summery to enjoy on a sunny spring day.
But if you’re not in the mood for cocktails there are plenty of other drinks to choose from, and customers can cosy by the fireplace inside on those much colder nights.
