Bluebirds take on Championship high-fliers Nottingham Forest on Sunday
CARDIFF City will face Nottingham Forest in front of their fans this Sunday searching for a first league win in seven matches.
The Bluebirds are 20th in the Championship table, four points above the relegation zone, and know if they are to avoid a high-stakes relegation battle, they need to start picking up wins soon.
Cardiff’s last league win came on November 27 away at Luton Town, and their last win at the Cardiff City Stadium was 11 days before that.
Their performance at home could be buoyed this week with the return of fans to the ground, in line with the Welsh Government’s easing of Covid-19 restrictions.
Cardiff captain Sean Morrison has missed the last two matches and fans hope that a possible return of the veteran centre back could restore some defensive stability in a side that has conceded 10 goals in just five games since he last played against Sheffield United in December.
Cardiff City fan Christopher Alexander, 62, said: “Hopefully we revert to a back four, get our captain back in the starting line-up and drop both [Curtis] Nelson and [Aden] Flint who were hopeless on Saturday.
“I can’t say I’m looking forward to it with current form but this is Cardiff City so anything might happen.”
Bluebirds’ manager Steve Morison said after last week’s 3-2 Severnside derby loss to Bristol City that: “There were lots of things that were not good in the goals we conceded, and it needs to be better.
“We just have to try and continue doing the things that we were doing in the first 30 minutes but do them for 90 minutes.”
Sunday’s opponents Nottingham Forest have been performing above expectations this season and the former European Cup winners sit in eighth place in the table.
Despite their good form however, the Reds lost to Cardiff in the reverse fixture in September, and Bluebirds fans will hope to complete a league double over the Midlands club.
Welsh teenager Ruben Colwill scored the first senior goals of his career as his side came from behind to win 2-1 against Forest, and the youngster will be hoping to add to his brace on the weekend.
Cardiff have no real selection problems going into the game, although new signing Tommy Doyle is on special leave for the match.
The Manchester City loanee provided an assist on his debut against Bristol City last week but will not be a part of the squad for Sunday’s match.
