The wing-back looks set to return to the Cardiff City Stadium from Wolves
WOLVERHAMPTON Wanderers wing-back Ryan Giles looks set to return to the Bluebirds after spending the first half of the season on loan at the club.
TalkSPORT’s Alex Crook tweeted that the player is “close” to returning to the Welsh side, who have sorely missed his creative presence in the first team.
Cardiff have lacked attacking threat in recent matches, and are currently on a run of seven league games without a win, and the loss of Giles has not helped matters.
The 21-year-old Englishman proved both popular and successful at the Welsh club, racking up nine assists in just 21 appearances.
Giles had been recalled from Cardiff to provide cover for the first team, but Wolves’ starting wing-backs Rayan Ait-Nouri, 20, and Nelson Semedo, 28, are in particularly good form.
Reserve wing-backs Fernando Marcal, 32, and Ki-Jana Hoever, 20, also appear to be above Giles in the pecking order at Molineux, so it seems like the West Midlands club have decided the Englishman should return to Cardiff for more first-team minutes.
Although typically he plays as a defender, former Cardiff City manager Mick McCarthy played the youngster further forward on the wing.
However, Wolves’ wingers are also in strong form, and recently signed a new winger, Chiquinho, 21, from Sporting Lisbon.
Bluebirds manager Steve Morison said that he personally wants Giles back at the club.
“Yeah, I haven’t left [Wolves] alone! I text them once or twice a week to check what’s going on.
He added: “If Ryan Giles becomes available, it’s no secret that we’d like him and I’m sure most teams in the Championship would.”
If Giles’ signing does go through, he would become Steve Morison’s third loan signing of the January window, after Leeds defender Cody Drameh, 20, and Manchester City midfielder Tommy Doyle, 20.
