Carnage in Cardiff: Craig Woodruff secures British lightweight title shot with latest win

Watch Newport’s Woodruff claim Celtic championship gold – and highlights from the card

NEWPORT’S Craig Woodruff defeated Ronnie Clark of Dundee over 10 rounds of professional boxing at The Vale Sports Arena in Cardiff on Saturday.

The win marked Woodruff’s greatest achievement to date as he picked up the Celtic lightweight title in a career-best showing against the Scotsman.

Woodruff will now fight the winner of Gavin Gwynne and Steve Willis for the British lightweight title, as he attempts to become the first British champion from Newport since David Pearce in 1983.

Elsewhere on the card, Kyran Jones scored his first professional stoppage victory as he blasted out Stanko Jermelic in round one.

Meanwhile, Kieran Gething dug deep to secure a unanimous decision over the ultra-tough Angel Emilov.
