WALES Under 20’s face a stern challenge tonight, against a Scottish side buoyed by an opening round victory over reigning champions England.
Jason Strange’s side will also go into tonight’s fixture full of confidence following an impressive 24-35 away victory against Ireland.
Despite a strong start to their campaign, former Newport and Bristol outside half Strange was clear that Wales will need an improved defensive performance to emerge victorious.
“We’ll certainly need to put in a better performance to get the result,” warned Strange.
“We know our core skills and contact area need to get better. If we do that we should do OK.
“Although we have looked at Scotland’s game, it’s important we concentrate on our own performance.”
One player set to play a key role in tonight’s encounter is Cardiff Blues centre Harri Millard.
Millard, who has been turning out for Pontypridd in the Welsh Premiership, was optimistic over Wales’ prospects.
“I think there’s plenty to work on, but to come away with a win out in Ireland on their home patch is phenomenal,” said the 19-year-old.
“It was a huge win because in any game you want to win your first game of the tournament to get momentum into the second game.
“Our performance was okay, we have a lot of things to work on but to have a win out there is great for us.”
Millard singled out Scarlets outside half Daniel Jones as a key player for his side.
“Yes, it’s great to have a ten like that. Dan Jones he’s phenomenal – he’s a good defensive ten as well, so you can trust him.
“I’m playing 12 this week so I can trust him on my inside, so I’m looking forward to playing with him.
