Cyclists light up Cardiff as they swan through city centre on charity bike ride

Bikers promoting accessible cycling rode through the city centre with handmade lanterns

A PEDAL-powered peleton of cyclists carrying handmade lanterns has swanned through Cardiff city centre.

The event had a swan theme and some of the lanterns were so large the bikes appeared to gracefully float through the streets in an optical illusion using the dark of the night-ride to their advantage.

The lantern-making was organised by Niki Fogarty, who has been making lights and floats since the 1990s for events such as Butetown Carnival.

The lanterns are made by wrapping wet tissue paper around willow frames, in sessions organised thorughout the week.

The volunteers cycled from the Pedal Power project in Pontcanna, past Cardiff Castle and through the city centre before circling back.
