Our reporters have been all over Cardiff covering every story – here is the best of the week on The Cardiffian
IT’S been another busy week so if you haven’t had a chance to catch up with the news from around Cardiff, don’t worry.
Here at The Cardiffian we have been out and about to as many areas as we can to find the stories that matter to you.
We’ve put together this round-up of the best of them and deposited them all in one place for you to enjoy.
Get a cuppa.
Protests on the streets
The unmissable story of the week in Cardiff – particularly if you are connected to the university – is the significant cuts proposed to several university departments, putting hundreds of jobs under threat.
Our reporters were at the scene when protesters from the schools of nursing and music, among others, took to the streets with placcards.
But it wasn’t just the university proposals that agitated people and pensioners protested at the Senedd against the cuts to Winter Fuel Allowance.
The superb owl
It’s not often The Cardiffian would lead on American Football, but it’s Superbowl weekend and you need to think about where you are going to watch it. Our reporter George Ratcliffe has listed all the bars showing it live into the wee small hours of Sunday morning.
Meanwhile, the only women’s American football team in Wales is appealing for new recruits. So if the ladies among you catch Superbowl fever at the weekend, you can get involed.
But if you just fancy a bit of good old traditional FA Cup football, then Cardiff City have a rare chance to progress to the 5th round if they can win at Stoke City. Fingers crossed.
A brilliant parrot
The story that made us smile most this week is the Cardiff pub with a pet parrot who won’t stop swearing.
Who’s a naughty boy then?
We also saw a parade of swans riding gracefully through the Cardiff night – Megan Huws explains why.
A final note
Friday saw the 10th anniverary of Dydd Miwsig Cymru – but what do Welsh language musicians think about what the day has achieved over the last decade?
And, finally, back to those Cardiff University protests. Students and lecturers from the school of music, who are also facing cuts, have been making their sweet voices heard.
Thanks for reading. We’ll see you next week.
Hope you enjoyed that cuppa.
Cheers,
Harry
