FAITH Nelson is looking ahead to the knockout stage of BBC’s The Voice after her success in the battle round.
The 18-year-old, who lives in Leckwith, is determined to overcome her nerves and make her family proud.
She said: “I’m just going to think of the knockout round as a showcase of myself, because it makes me feel better about it.
“I’ve enjoyed every single moment of being on The Voice and I have a great team so all I have to do is just sing.
“I know I used to think I’m doing this for my family, but I now know that I also have to do this for myself. I’m over the moon to be singing again and whatever happens, happens.
“I’m nervous, but girls like me don’t often get these opportunities. I’m so glad to be representing Cardiff and my hometown,Walthamstow.”
Faith defeated former Liberty X star, Kevin Simm, in the battle round on Saturday.
They were partnered up to cover Jennifer Hudson’s Spotlight in the sing-off.
She said: “The battle round was simply out of my comfort zone. It’s so scary to think that you are singing against someone.
“When I was sitting with the whole team getting ready to know who I was battling against, my heart was literally melting to pieces. I was so nervous.
“I never ever expected to sing with a star. Kevin Simm is amazing. I couldn’t believe I won the battle. I thought I never had a chance, but Paloma (Faith’s mentor) and Kevin helped to instil some confidence in me.”
Faith will continue to fight to keep her place in Team Paloma on Saturday (March 12).
Leighton Jones, another Cardiff resident, also made it through to the knockout round. He won his battle against Eli Cripps and remains a part of Team Boy George.
