Friends of Heath Park Woodlands (FHPW) say any proposal to build on Heath Park’s woodland should be objected.
Up to 100 trees could be cut down for an extension of Cardiff Model Engineering Society’s Miniature Railway, who argue “it will provide an additional, more interesting ride through woodland for our visitors.”
The park is in constant use by the public and the woodland is habitat to protected species, the Great Crested Newt.
“The Great Crested Newt inhabits the main pond, which is only about 50 metres away from the proposed extension site,” says FHPW Chairman, Steve Bool.
The woodland is also home to great spotted woodpeckers.
Whether the proposed extension will go ahead should be heard within the next couple of weeks.
