It may have made its Broadway debut 17 years ago, but this month, students at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama are out to prove that the musical Rent is still relevant today.
Performed by a student cast studying for a Master’s in Musical Theatre at the college, Rent tells the story of a group of New Yorkers struggling with relationships, illness and what it means to be human.
Course leader, Vivien Care, believes that the humanity at the core of the story is what makes the long-running show appealing to audiences. She says, “The characters in Rent [are] just trying to find their way through life, and I think everyone can relate to that.”
The show will run from 6-14 December at the Bute Theatre.
