An abandoned tramshed in Grangetown is to be turned into a multi-purpose Urban Arts Centre, comprising of office units, dance studios, coffee shops, a bar and even a restaurant. Despite the amount of power all those businesses require, efforts are being made to ensure this new complex is as green as possible.
“There’s building regs to ensure the new developments will hit certain energy-efficiency rates” says Ian Lloyd-Davies of Cardiff Council. “Cardiff University’s Welsh School of Architecture have been involved in the proceedings, giving advice on renewable energy schemes.”
However, TShed Developments, the company in final negotiations to buy the tramshed, are not required to follow the university’s advice.
“Whether the company follows this advice” says Lloyd-Davies, “is up to them.”
