It is time for all Cardiffians to show their support, as voting for the “UK’s Best Park, as voted by YOU!” opened last week, with six nominations from Cardiff.
With the nomination phase coming to a close on the 4th of November with a massive 122 nominations, ten of them are parks in Wales – with nominations spanning the entire country, from Flintshire to Cardiff. And six of them are located in Cardiff, namely – Bute Park, Creigiau Recreation Ground, Grangemoor Park, Morgan Jones Park, Pontcanna Fields and Roath Park.
“The Fields in Trust awards have been running for four years and recognise the hard work that takes place on sites protected with ourselves across the country.” stated Helen Griffiths, the Fields in Trust Chief Executive. The organization, which celebrates its 90th year, however, wanted to do something a bit different and open out the ceremony to also include those sites not yet protected with themselves. “The ‘UK’s Best Park, as voted by YOU!’ Award is unique in that it allows any member of the public to nominate their favourite local green space to be the UK’s best. This award is by the public and for the public, and through it, we want to find which local green space is the one most special to the public,” said Mrs. Griffiths, explaining the motive behind the inclusion of this new award category.
“The public reception has been excellent and since the voting began, thousands of votes have already been made from all over the UK.” according to the Fileds In Trust CEO. The winner of the UK’s Best Park will be announced at the Awards Ceremony to be held at the Lord’s Cricket Ground on 2nd December. And owing to the wild success of the award this year, “We are looking forward to continuing to help find the UK’s favorite local green space for years to come.” added Mrs. Griffiths.
