Children Poverty has been one of the most knotty problems in Wales

Wales has the worst children poverty in the UK and the problem has been the “new normal” in many parts of the area. How does the poverty affect these children and what can be done about it?

Children in poverty live without the basic guarantee of food and clothes

More than 200,000 Welsh children are living in poverty and the number is still going up. According to a charity, Children In Wales, these children are less able to join in activities that their peers do while lower academic attainment and poorer health outcomes also been found during the research.

As the UK standard of poverty suggests, children are said to be living in poverty if they live in families with an income below 60% of the normal level. In some of the worst areas, it is estimated that 35% of children are difficult to get the basic food, clothes and toiletries.
