Twelve homeless people have received the free haircut service by a Cardiff barber on Monday this week.
Darren Flower, manager of Man About Cardiff came up the idea and opened his shop for homeless people. He said he was shocked by the great number of homeless people on the street this year and wanted to do something good for them in the cold months.
“I’ve only been working here (Man About Cardiff) as a manager for 8 weeks. Before that, I worked in Whitchurch where very rarely did I see homeless people. But now working in the city centre, it is very shocking to see the amount of homeless and cold people. We want to do something about this,” said Darren Flower.
“There were 12 homeless people coming into the barber shop,” said Darren, “I think they (homeless people) don’t need to be nervous. Just come in and making themselves feel warm and comfortable.”
This is the first time Man About Cardiff and Darren have done this event, and they plan to do it monthly in the future. Although Darren said appearance may not be important for homeless people, he thinks clean haircut can help them feel better.
