Transgender young people and children stand more chances of concern in Wales next year.
One million budget helping transgender young people will be announced by Walsh government next week, a human right equality manager mentioned.
“The biggest challenges they faced, probably is health care, the want of clinic in Wales, so they have to travel to London for medical appointment,” Rachel Benson, development officer from Youth Cymru said.
“Also, lack of understanding from professions, for examples, teachers do not respect their pronouns, so some young people may become social isolated and affect their healthy working,” she added.
Rachel mentioned that there are other difficulties encountered by Transsexual young people in the society, such as difficulties in choosing labeled pronoun public toilets, they may be discriminated by people and walk out, friendship as well.
“I helped two transgender students at our school. It has been a rising concern issue. They are anxious about using the labeled gender toilets, so we temporarily arrange them to use the staff one,” Jan Hughes, a teacher from Cardiff.
“It is easy for many people to identify themselves in ways of other than simply male or female, while trans people may find it difficult,” Rachel said.
Trans people is defined as individuals whose identity differs from what is typically associated with sex they were assigned at birth.
Katrin Palla, a teacher said that besides financial supporting, education is more important.
“Dealing with transgender people at school, probably 99% people would never malicious, almost nobody hate others because of gender, just lack of these issues and lack of understandings,” Gareth Whitfield, a pupil from Cardiff.
“The ways to spread these information, sharing through social media or hold campaigns are more likely to stimulate people’s interest, if you let teachers tell you in a lecture, almost no one listens.”
“To raise people’s awareness at school, we do campaign, assembling, PSAG lessons, and tweet articles and activities or share links to make sure people get message.”
Rachel said that they handled a situation recently, a trans young people who went to college, when filled the online survey, facing the question about gender, there were just two options, either female or male and no option for them to write their own answer.
“What we could do is little, for business or college, when layout the survey, considering a bit more about demographic options to let trans people feel acceptable and respectable,” Mathew Taylor, Equality manager for center human right.
