Cardiff council has said the new rubbish collection scheme works well since July, and recycling rate is improving.
The new “stay out of the black…move into the green” bin scheme first was introduced by the council in July in order to meet new Welsh Government recycling targets which has gone up to 58%.
“The upward trend identified in these figures is obviously very pleasing,” Cabinet Member for environment, councillor Bob Derbyshire told Wales Online on October 18. “Since the scheme was introduced in July, the tonnage of recycling material collected has increased by 11% and food waste is up by 15% on the same time last year.”
Cardiff residents have voiced objections since the introduction of new bin rules.
“The plans are turning my home into a dump,” Claire Finch told Wales Online on October 18.
Chairwoman Steph Wilkins told Wales Online on October 18 that there should be more consultation and some mix and match system.
