Step into the heart of Cardiff and you’ll find this hidden gem named Hobos Vintage with celebrity connections, a treasure trove of American and European vintage clothing nestled in one of Cardiff’s famous arcades.
I had the pleasure of speaking to Ben and Tyr. Ben, a DJ when he’s not at the store, tells me with a grin that he has worked for this business 31 years.
Tyr, who’s been working part-time at the store, shares, “I think the best part about the job is just like how many people come in, and you meet so many new people, and like at the end of the day, you have a lot of stories because there’s so much in it.” It’s hard to pop up something interesting immediately.
Speaking of stories, Hobos Vintage has hosted its fair share of famous faces over the years. “Do you know Gallagher brothers from Oasis?” Tyr chuckles and shows me the picture. As I’ve heard of Oasis far from China before, I couldn’t help but feel the excitement of standing in a place where rock legends had once roamed.
But the crown jewel in their collection of celebrity encounters is none other than the talented Martin Freeman. Tyr’s eyes light up and says, “Martin Freeman’s probably the most famous person, he comes into the store as well.”
As you stroll through the aisles of Hobos Vintage, it’s impossible not to be drawn into the rich tapestry of fashion and history. The racks are adorned with classic pieces that tell the story of a bygone era. From flapper dresses to mod jackets, every garment whispers tales of its own.
So, if you’re ever in Cardiff and looking for a vintage shopping experience like no other, make your way to Hobos Vintage. It’s more than just a store, it’s a journey through time, a place where you’ll uncover treasures and perhaps even a story or two from the past. You might even bump into a rockstar or a Hollywood legend, who knows!
