Cardiff council could be called upon to translate Newport Council’s website, which is currently only available in English.
The Newport authority has faced criticism of its lack of focus on the Welsh language in the past. They may now be forced to pay around £3,000 for translation services.
The Welsh Language Act makes it compulsory for Welsh councils to offer Welsh language as an option online. The omission could result in a fine of up to £5,000.
The new translation would not go online until July 2015.
