WHILE most people were asleep in their beds this morning, one committed gig-goer travelled 90 miles to front the queue to see his favourite bands – 13 hours before the doors open.
Liam Bowen, 17, from Tenby, Pembrokeshire arrived at the Cardiff Students’ Union at 5am this morning to be first in line for the sold-out Kerrang Tour. He didn’t sleep and left at 2am to arrive for a gig starting tonight (Friday) at 6.30pm.
The teenager arrived wearing a tiger onesie, carrying only two pillows, a marker pen, and some chicken slices. He said: “I just like being at the front, at the barrier, because you get to be close to the band.
“I wear a onesie because it always stands out, and I quite often get hi-fives for it. The band seems to think it’s cool – pretty rock and roll.
“I’ve been here for two and a half hours and no one else has been around. Except a security guard, who thought I was drunk.”
Bowen said: “I’m mainly here for Bury Tomorrow, but it’s the Kerrang Tour and it’s a great event. I live in a place where there are not many people like me so I come and meet friends, queue, and go mad in the gig.”
He’s committed to his 13-hour stint: “It’s no problem, and not the longest I’ve done. I queued for 26 hours at Brixton for Gerard Way.”
“But people will start arriving here soon. Hopefully.”
