RAIL passengers are being warned of delays around Cardiff and South Wales over the Easter weekend as Network Rail carries out engineering work.
Major changes will affect the Valley Lines with diversions, bus replacements and services running from different stations.
In the city centre, between Easter Saturday at 9pm and Tuesday, March 29, there will be no train service between Cardiff Queen Street and Cardiff Central due to “essential modernisation work” by Network Rail.
Passengers are being advised to allow at least an extra 20 minutes for their journeys to walk between the stations. Those requiring mobility assistance must book a Passenger Assist service in advance.
There will be no replacement buses along the route.
Services to Merthy Tydfil, Barry Island, Aberdare, Penarth and Bargoed are also affected and many will be subject to rail replacement buses.
Network Rail is advising passengers to allow extra time for their journey, and say dogs (except guide dogs), cycles, prams and large items of luggage cannot be carried on replacement bus services.
The company is also expecting peak time services to be busy at the end of work on Tuesday, March 29, and is advising passengers to make alternative travel arrangements where possible.
As well as disruption to services, car parks at Cogan and Radyr stations will be closed, and there will be restrictions at Cardiff Central station to allow for the replacement bus services.
All passengers are advised to check their route before they travel in the Cardiff and South Wales area between Easter Friday and Tuesday, March 29.
- For detailed outlines of all the affected routes and bus replacements, passengers are asked to refer to the National Rail website.
