A CARDIFF primary school spent last Friday taking part in a Bounce for Pudsey day, going on to raise hundreds of pounds for Children in Need.
Llandaff City Church in Wales primary school raised £434.60 by taking part in non-uniform day and dance classes led by headteacher Annette James who was dressed in a Pikachu onesie.
Several pupils also held a sponsored silence.
“The children are very charitable by nature,” Mrs James said.
Michelle Reeves, Year 3 teaching assistant, added: “They are always doing bake sales for this, that and the other, they’re very kind children.
“They raised £942 in Christian Aid week, and about £500 for refugees, the children do it themselves a lot of the time.”
Mrs James, who led all 14 bouncing sessions, combined the fundraising with a message about keeping fit as part of the school’s commitment to the Healthy Schools Award.
Before the 15-minute session with Year 4, her eighth of the day, Mrs James pointed at her heart and said: “I am going to be working this muscle, what is it called?”
When the children answered “heart”, she said: “It is important to work the heart.”
During the day, every child was given the opportunity to dance with Mrs James.
She said: “It’s a really good way of getting to spend time with all the children, and by the end of the day every child had danced with a Pikachu.”
Year 1 teacher, Emma Brown, whose class was one of the first to to take part said: “They’re still bouncing!”
One pupil said: “This is the best thing we have ever done.”
