Cardiff manager Neil Warnock is in the market for a striker, as the transfer window comes to an end.
Warnock has been open in his belief that a lack goals is holding his side back and has been linked with moves for several targets, including former fan favourite, Ross McCormack.
McCormack, who left the Bluebirds in 2010, is looking for a move from Aston Villa after a bust-up with manager Steve Bruce. A return to Cardiff would be welcomed by fans who have fond memories of his goalscoring exploits for the club, but Cardiff face competition from Burnley, Sunderland and Nottingham Forest for his signature.
His return may also be dependent on Aston Villa’s signing of Scott Hogan from Brentford.
Cardiff showed a late interest in signing Bristol Rovers’ forward Matty Taylor and there was a suggestion that Rickie Lambert, who played for Rovers from 2006 to 2009, would go the other way as part of the deal. However Taylor, who has scored 67 times for Rovers since he signed for them in 2014, pressed ahead with his move to cross-city rivals Bristol City.
The Bluebirds’ interest in Aberdeen striker Johnny Hayes has come to an end, as they have had a third bid for the winger turned down. This bid worth £600,000 was below Aberdeen’s £1 million valuation and manager Derek McInnes says that the deal is “now dead”.
Striker Adam le Fondre is set to leave Cardiff for Bolton on a permanent deal. Le Fondre, who is currently on-loan at Wigan, has not played for a game for Cardiff for two years and has only played three games for Wigan this season. He scored eight goals in 13 appearances for Bolton during a loan spell in 2015.
