Help Cardiff chaplains cheer up NHS staff

Cyncoed Ministry sets up initiative to send encouraging notes to key-workers during the pandemic

COULD you help cheer up NHS staff? A Cardiff ministry is asking for people to send positive messages to staff at the Heath Hospital.

“COVID-19 is placing a great burden on all our NHS staff and they will become wearier and more stretched in the months ahead. Even a small response to support and encourage NHS staff is a plus,” said Sharon Jenkins, an administrator for Cyncoed Ministry.

The chaplains will hand out the cards to the staff and there is no limit to how many you can send.

They have already had a positive response from staff on the wards.

Reverend Jason Tugwell, the chaplaincy service manager said one member of staff, added: “The comments I got were ‘Oh, that’s so nice, it’s lovely to think that someone is thinking of us.’

“I gave one to the staff on the A & E Assessment Unit and the nurse I gave it to was tearful and said that it meant so much to read that and to know that people wanted to encourage them as it was really stressful at the time.  She was really grateful as were all the staff I gave them too.”

What can I write?

There are a few stipulations for the cards:

  • Refrain from including political or religious views but “God bless you” and “we are praying for you” are acceptable.
  • If the message is gender specific, you can indicate with an M or F on the back.

If you would like to support NHS staff at the Heath Hospital, you can send a card to the hospital’s chaplaincy department at this address:
