Cardiff University car flipped upside-down after collision on City Road

The 65-year-old driver of the vehicle was taken to hospital “as a precaution”

The Cardiff University vehicle showed major damage to it’s front wheels and broken windows as it was towed away.

A Cardiff University security vehicle ended up on its roof following a collision in Roath last night.

South Wales Police were called to City Road in Cardiff at 8:35pm and found the vehicle at the side of the road.

Police say the driver, a 65-year-old man from Grangetown, was taken to University Hospital of Wales as a precaution, but escaped major injury.

A spokesperson said that the Cardiff University vehicle had been the only car involved and the driver “received a verbal warning”.

The circumstances of the collision are still unknown but there appeared to be damage to the traffic island in the middle of the road, suggesting the car may have collided with it.

Glass was sprinkled across the entire road after the collision and police moved quickly to control traffic and clean up debris.

Police were quick to close one direction of traffic and clean up large amounts of debris from the site.

The speed limit on the Road is currently limited to 20mph.

Cardiff University have been contacted for a comment, but have yet to reply.
