Takeaway service with a difference launches in the Vale

Vale of Glamorgan Eats will donate half its profits back to the community

A NEW takeaway ordering service, Vale of Glamorgan Eats, will launch at the end of this month.

The app will feature takeaway businesses in the Vale which can deliver to areas not covered by competitors, such as Deliveroo and Uber Eats.

Promotor Ethan Rane, 40, founder of Vale of Glamorgan Eats, has lived in the area for 15 years.

He said: “This is personal for me – I’ve been in the industry a long time and I wanted to create something affordable for businesses and give something back to the community.

“Half of this year’s profits will be going back into our community, either through donating to local charities, schools or local projects.”

The VOG Eats App is affordable for local businesses as it offers low commission fees in comparison to the big-name delivery services.

Deliveroo and Uber Eats charge between 15% and 35% in commission; whereas VOG Eats charges half that and 50% of this year’s proceeds will be donated back to the community.

It will also allow takeaway businesses to reach a new demographic, as app users would have access to try takeaways from independents all over the area.

So far, 25 businesses have signed up, from Barry, Penarth, Llantwit Major and other parts of the Vale.

Independents include Saagor, Fat Boys, Penarth Curry Hut, and many more.

Kate Gunton, 22, who lives in Llantwit Major, said: “There are very limited choices when you are ordering a takeaway in the Vale of Glamorgan, especially in Llantwit Major. It isn’t within the delivery distance of most mainstream food establishments with a takeaway service, such as Dominos or McDonalds.

“A new takeaway service in the Vale would positively impact local restaurants as it would provide exposure to a wider range of customers and increase business opportunities without any competition from larger companies.

“It would also provide more options for residents who do not have access to cars, or for those would like to support independent businesses like myself.”
