Disruption is likely to continue over the weekend during the clean-up operation
STORM Eunice is causing major transport issues in Cardiff and The Vale of Glamorgan.
The Met Office has warned that winds of up to 100mph could hit the area today.
Here are the latest transport suspensions and updates.
Trains
Transport For Wales has suspended all trains today due to the red weather warning. There will be no rail replacement buses due to likely disruption to the road network. The train operator said: “Train services will be suspended for the whole day, with disruption likely to continue into the weekend so that over 1,000 miles of track can be checked and cleared of debris and fallen trees.”
“The decision has been made jointly by Network Rail and train operators with the safety of passengers and railway staff paramount.”
Transport for Wales is allowing passengers with tickets for today (Feb 18), or Saturday (Feb 19), to travel over the weekend, or Monday, if services have resumed by then.
Great Western Railway is also allowing passengers to travel on alternative days with tickets valid today through to and including Monday, February 21.
Martyn Brennan, operations director at Transport for Wales, said: “The safety of our customers and our colleagues sits at the very heart of what we do and for this reason, we have taken the difficult decision to suspend all TfW services Friday until it is safe to re-open.
“The extreme weather forecast for Storm Eunice is very concerning, so we are strongly advising people not to attempt to travel during this time as services will not be operating.
“For those who have already purchased a ticket to travel during Storm Eunice, they can choose to travel on Saturday 19 or on Sunday 20. Alternatively, customers can claim a full refund in the normal way. I would like to thank customers for their understanding and support.”
Buses
All Cardiff Bus services are suspended until 1pm. All services have been suspended since 7am this morning.
Cardiff Bus said: “From 1pm onwards normal services will resume depending upon conditions at that time.”
All Traws Cymru bus services to and from Cardiff are suspended until at least 1pm.
All Megabus and National Express services to and from Cardiff have been suspended until further notice.
Megabus said: “Services will resume as soon as possible when weather warnings have passed. Services may still be affected later today. Tickets can be amended free of charge.”
Neither bus service is currently operating anywhere South of Birmingham.
Cardiff Airport
Cardiff Airport remains open today but some services have been cancelled and others delayed due to high wind speeds.
Customers are urged to check regularly with their flight operator for the latest updates.
Live flight information for Cardiff airport shows that multiple scheduled arrivals and departures have been delayed or cancelled.
River Bus
Cardiff Boat and Aquabus have no services today due to continued high river flows and poor weather forecasts.
Services may not be able to continue for several days.
