Despite suffering a 9-13 defeat to the favourites, Cardiff produced a fantastic atmosphere in and out of the stadium for this crunch Six Nations tie
FRENCH fans flooded the city on Friday as their side sought to beat Wales and take another step towards the Grand Slam. The famous blue kit was a common sight around the arcades and city centre throughout the day.
Despite being out of contention for the title after defeat last time out against England, Wales fans were still excited to see their side face up against one of the most in-form teams on the planet.
“I’m really excited,” said Cardiffian writer and diehard Wales fan Adam Hart, before attending the game. “I think France are probably going to win, unfortunately, but you never know with Wales at home in the Six Nations.
“It’s just been amazing to be back in the stadium after Covid restrictions were lifted- I think for the players as well, it’s a massive lift for them.
“Sadly the roof will be open because of the Covid, but it’s still going to be amazing to be back in there- even though they don’t serve beer after half-time any more, I’m sure it will be a great occasion.”
Ultimately his pessimism was justified. France triumphed 13-9 on Friday night to keep their hopes of a Grand Slam alive, despite a spirited Wales performance.
Wayne Pivac’s side will be back in the Principality next Saturday, for their final Six Nations game against Italy.
