The owner has called this year the ‘hardest of his life’ as he prepares for the opening of Café Artiste
A NEW café is set to open on Station Road in Llandaff North in the coming weeks in place of the popular Beppy’s.
Café Artiste will serve customers premium coffee and boast a modern menu and is set to be open seven days a week.
Owner Saul Johnstone is a young businessman who lives on Station Road himself and spent his youth working in cafés. He also owns Salon Artiste, the hair salon which opened in March 2021 just down the road from the new café.
Mr Johnstone hopes Café Artiste will offer customers a “stylish, relaxed slice of escapism” that will always be “the best place to be whether you want to hide away with a book or catch up with friends”.
The new café will be opening in place of the popular Beppy’s which Chris Worsey sold last year having owned the iconic Llandaff North breakfast spot for some 26 years.
Speaking about Beppy’s to the Cardiffian in January, Mr Worsey said: “It probably didn’t change over the years. I am a bit of a time warp. Really good value for money was the main thing, and consistency.”
The new owner hopes to create a more modern café through Café Artiste.
It was originally hoped that the new café would open its doors in the spring but structural delays have made this year, what Mr Johnstone calls “the hardest of his life”.
“It has been a long and difficult journey, but we felt a responsibility to everyone locally to do it justice, so we have made every effort to do it the right way”, he said.
“Every positive interaction has kept us going through the moments of doubt and we cannot wait to welcome you through the doors very soon.”
Mr Johnstone has further ideas for Llandaff North. He has plans to create a small community area out the back of the salon sometime in the future.
The owner believes that once it has opened Café Artiste could be “the prettiest café in Cardiff”.
